Trunk; From Traveling to Storing
If you are fans of The Adventures of Tin Tin you will notice that he usually had big traveling chest when he was traveling around the world. His big traveling chest or used to called trunk loads many things in it. Trunk was a popular item for storage and luggage.
In early period, trunk consider as traveling bag when most commonly used for extended periods away from home, such as for boarding school, or long trips abroad. If you are fans of The Adventures of Tin Tin you will notice that he usually had it when he was traveling around the world. As mentioned before trunk loads many items on it even though it is difficult to carry, as it requires more than one person. They were made in many shapes and sizes and from various materials. Trunks were generally constructed with a base trunk box made of pine, which was then covered with protective and decorative materials. Some of the earliest trunks are covered with studded hide or leather and look much like the furniture of the same period. In the past, even some wealthier people made them in luxurious material and distinctive design, which sometimes it look like as treasure box as it appearance.
Which slight change until today, most trunks are used as either furniture such as glass-covered coffee tables or decorative storage for everything from blankets and linens to memorabilia and military paraphernalia. In modern furniture design, trunk is part of bedroom furniture, which is usually place at the end of the bed. Some of it also completed with drawers and side door. It is also made of various materials although commonly it is made of wood. As well, its design that available, either in antique or modern style thus gives preference to customers. An antique trunk generally appears like old-fashioned trunk with brass band or leather hide on it. On the other hand, contemporary or modern trunk may have distinctive design and shape that is different from the old trunk. Some of it may have drawers and tilt out door instead in flats-top model or dome top that looks like a treasure box. Alternatively there is as well made similar to bench with upholstery on it thus has double function either as storage and seating stool. What a great idea to place it in a place beside bedroom that gives a new impression on the room.
